Why Your Body Feels "Tired but Wired"

You are exhausted, and still your mind will not stop. Tired but wired is one of the most common things people describe when they first walk into class.
It is usually a sign that the nervous system has stayed in a state of alert for longer than it was designed to. The body is running on activation rather than rest.
More effort rarely helps here. What helps is slowing the exhale, lengthening the pause, and letting the body register that the emergency is over.
That is why we breathe first. Not as a warm up, but as the work itself.
