Mindset Shifts, From The Roots Up

Our Story

Movement that supports your nervous system.

Roots Pilates Studio is a calm, supportive space designed to help you slow down and reconnect with your body through movement. At the heart of the studio is The Roots Method, a nervous system-led approach to Pilates that shifts the focus away from pressure and intensity, and back into how your body actually feels. This is a space built on the belief that movement should feel sustainable, grounding, and supportive. Instead of pushing harder, you're invited to move with awareness, rebuild strength gradually, and create a more connected relationship with your body.

Two Worlds, One Practice

A life spent between the studio floor and the studio light. Two disciplines that ask the same thing of the body: attention, honesty and breath.

01FOUNDATIONS

Discover the method

Five threads woven through every session, so that strength and softness are built at the same time.

  • 01

    Breathwork

We begin with the breath, slowing it down until the body remembers it is safe.

  • 02

    Classical Pilates repertoire

The original order, taught with care, so strength is built in sequence rather than in a rush.

  • 03

    Closing stillness

Every class ends soft. A few quiet minutes to let the work settle into the body.

  • 04

    Nervous system regulation

Gentle practices that teach your system how to come down, and how to stay down.

  • 05

    Ancestral wellness

Stories, rituals and mindset shifts that reconnect movement with where you come from.

02PHILOSOPHY

Mindset Shifts, From The Roots Up

Four quiet reorientations that shape how we teach, and how the work continues once you leave the mat.

01

Regulate before you decide

A settled body makes clearer choices. We calm the system first, then we ask it questions.

02

Name the emotion

What is named can be felt and released. Language gives feeling somewhere safe to land.

03

Design the environment

Willpower runs out. Rooms, rhythms and small rituals carry you when motivation does not.

04

Rest is growth

Nothing roots while it is being pulled. Rest is where the work becomes yours.

03PRACTICE

A practice that fits your life

Some weeks you need a room full of people and a teacher watching your alignment. Other weeks you need ten quiet minutes on your own floor before the house wakes up. Both count. Both are practice.

Classes run in person in Islington and Bishop's Stortford, and live online via Zoom on Sundays. Come as you are, on the day you can.

04THE SESSIONS

Ways to practise

Every session moves in three parts, whichever room you are in.

  1. Part One

    Breathwork

Arriving, settling, letting the pace of the day fall away.

  2. Part Two

    Classical Pilates repertoire

The original order, taught with precision and steady encouragement.

  3. Part Three

    Closing stillness

Quiet minutes to let the practice land before you leave.

06QUESTIONS

Before you arrive

"Movement is how the body speaks, breath is how it settles, and stillness is where we hear what our roots have been saying all along."

Latesha Wilson, Founder

05STUDY

The roots of the work

Six threads that run through the classes, the writing and the conversations we keep returning to.

01

The lung and grief connection

Grief settles in the breath. We work with the ribs and the diaphragm so sorrow has room to move.

02

The womb as a site of stored trauma

The lower body holds long memory. We approach it slowly, with consent and with softness.

03

Nervous system regulation through movement

Rhythm, pace and pressure teach the system a new baseline it can return to on its own.

04

Breathwork

Simple, repeatable practices you can carry into the school run, the commute, the hard conversation.

05

Herbalism

Plants as everyday care. Teas, tinctures and rituals that keep the body companioned.

06

Ancestral wellness

The practices that came before us, remembered and returned to daily life.

06FORM FIRST

The six principles we return to

Classical Pilates is not a workout to survive. It is a set of principles that teach the body a kinder way to carry itself.

01

Control

Movement led by intention, never momentum.

02

Precision

Small corrections that change everything.

03

Breath

The rhythm that carries every repetition.

04

Concentration

Full attention, given to one thing at a time.

05

Centre

Strength gathered from the middle outward.

06

Flow

Grace between shapes, not just within them.

07COMMUNITY
